アメリカンドッグ

けして高品質とは言えないウインナーは真新しい丸木串に突き刺さり、
ほとんど砂糖抜きのホットケーキに近い生地は少し悪くなった油でもって
均一な黄金色に揚げられていた。

揚がってから誰かが買うまでのあいだ、ハロゲンランプに照らされ
じっと待っている。はっきりといと言うと油が劣化しているわけだ。

ふつう、油揚げ食品ならば、この状態は品質の低下を意味するのだが、
ことアメリカンドッグ。そう、アメリカンドッグに関しては、これら通常は
不都合とされる条件により、衣のサクサク感や生地のﾓｯﾁﾘ感
そして何より独特の風味を倍化させ、結果それこそが商品の魅力となるわけだ。

ここで俺は思う。
人生に措いて、たとえ自分が良くない素材であり
劣悪な環境に在ったとしても、以上でいうところの温度環境
つまり「温もり」に相当するものさえあれば、
人はそれをバネにして内側から己の魅力を引き出し
その結果をもって、自分に他人を惹き付けさせるための要素としうる。
これはそういう実例なのではないだろうか。

我々がアメリカンドッグに学ぶことは多い。
